When you choose Fairtrade silver you choose to guarantee that miners and their families are paid a fair price for the demanding and dangerous work they do to extract silver for your jewellery.
We believe that success must be shared equitably for communities and businesses to thrive. In the precious metals industry the vast majority of workers endure unacceptable working conditions and pay. We are committed to using metal sourced from mines that are Fairtrade certified, and to raising awareness of inequity in the jewellery supply chain.
Because supply of Fairtrade silver is very limited (just one mine in Peru) we also use recycled silver for some of our pieces. Whether Fairtrade or recycled, the metal you buy is 925 sterling silver, just the same as any other silver metal on the market. But there's a huge difference in the way our silver is produced, and its impact on lives and the environment is greatly reduced in comparison to the vast majority of silver in the marketplace. We strive to minimise damage to the environment and work towards the development of silver mining that supports stable businesses and healthy communities.
When you choose Mosami jewellery you choose to wear silver that contributes to the better livelihoods of the people who mined it.
Fairtrade silver is at the very early stages of development and currently only available from one mine in the world – Sotrami in Peru.
The miners here have worked closely with Fairtrade and numerous other partners including our friends at Cred Jewellery to ensure that the mining practice meets Fairtrade standards. Supply is very limited but this is just the beginning of a courageous journey to bring equity to the precious metals artisanal mining industry. We are very proud to be compatriots on the journey and are confident that over time Mosami will be 100% Fairtrade silver.
Wear your Mosami pieces with pride - they are at the forefront of a pioneering movement in the jewellery industry.
When you choose Fairtrade silver you choose to guarantee that miners and their families are paid a fair price for the demanding and dangerous work they do to extract silver for your jewellery. In addition they receive a premium that is used to invest in their community enabling them to improve education for their kids, put better food on the table and build a stable business.
We think that’s the very least we can do in exchange for precious gold and silver and we hope you agree :-)
